How to Sing Better – Fast!

The biggest misconception about singing is that it’s simply a talent that you either have or don’t have. Sure, a person’s natural vocal tone plays a role, but the reality is that singing is a skill nearly everyone can develop if they choose.

Don’t believe us? We’ll prove it! Try these tips for singing better and listen to how much your singing has improved after you’ve done these for even just a few days

1. Improve Your Posture

Another common myth is that singing all happens in your throat. Ok, so that’s true, the sound is actually produced with the vocal folds. BUT, the reality also is that singing is an activity that uses so much of your entire body, including your ab muscles, obliques, transversus, lungs, ribcage, vocal folds, lips and posture! To make sure all these areas have the space to do their
best work, you need to be standing or sitting with a tall and strong posture.

2. Practice Matching Pitches

Pitch-matching is a great way to practice improving your singing. The idea is simple: use a tuning fork, a piano, an app or even a YouTube video that plays different pitches or warm ups
and match each pitch with your voice. It improves your ability to control your tone and it gives you a sense of how different each pitch feels and sounds.

3. Use Singing Breath Control Exercises

Great singing starts with great breathing! The way you breathe affects your ability to control yourvoice and to put the perfect amount of power behind your voice at the right times.

The key to building your breath control for singing is to learn to take slow, deep breaths. Breathe low and slow, expand your sides so you’re using all of your lungs, not just the top half of them and hold this expansion in place while you sing. Often times I’ve used the martial arts position,“horse stance!” This is a fun and silly way to learn how to engage the muscles while you sing

4. Relax!

This tip is as simple as it gets! You need to relax both physically and mentally. Physically, release tension in your throat, jaw, and other areas that can constrict your singing. Mentally,
trust and have fun! Your body has more natural knowledge of what to do than you may realize,so relax and let it guide you.
