OUR STORY
Skylight Academy of Music has its roots in the community, having started in the Marshall Music print store; we are now located, “around the corner”, on Cabrillo, in beautiful historic Torrance, on Carson and Cabrillo.
Skylight Academy of Music currently offers private online lessons in voice and piano to students of all ages, and we will soon offer online group lessons as well.
No experience necessary!
All ages, levels and styles welcome!
We develop lesson plans, curriculum and performance opportunities to develop our students skills and build confidence, helping them achieve and exceed their goals and expectations!
Our students and instructors have performed and / or provided music & entertainment for the South Coast Botanic Gardens, Art Galleries in Rancho Palos Verdes, Torrance Woman’s Club, Sunrise Senior Living, Carson Chamber of Commerce, Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, the Palos Verdes Fair, the James R. Armstrong Theater, various musical theater productions and more, our students have recorded vocals for independent documentary film production’s, album’s and other projects.
It is an honor to share our love for music and performing as we develop strong, capable, confident future CEO’s, musicians and performers.
Music is a lifelong journey, and we want to share our love, skill and knowledge with you, so you may discover this same love and joy, as you take this wild ride we call music together!

SKYLIGHT DIRECTOR
Director, Michelle Bourque, alumna of the USC Graduate of USC’s Thornton School of Music toured the U.S. as Cassandra with True Colors Edutainment; performed at the Ford Amphitheater’s “Living Legends of Latin Music”, roles& works range from Hortense in the West Coast Premiere of Tobias Picker’s An American Tragedy. Mozart’s Exultate Jubilate, Queen of the Night in Die Zauberflöte, Mimi in La Bohème, Maria in West Side Story, Luisa in The Fantastiks, Aldonza in Man of La Mancha & more. She has performed fun leading roles with the Guild Opera Company as the Mock Turtle, White Rabbit and Cheshire Cat in Alice in Wonderland, Estrella as Estrella and Little Red Riding Hood.
As an educator and music director for over 20 years, Miss Bourque served as author, instructor, conductor, soloist, music director, vocal, piano and recorder instructor and teaching artist for various organizations, such as LAUSD, LAUSD’s Conservatory of Fine Arts for the Gifted and Talented, the Music Center of Los Angeles, lead artist in their Experienced Institute for Educator the Los Angeles Philharmonic, author of the L.A. Philharmonic Recorder Curriculum Guideline and Teaching Artist curriculum for Mozart’s 250th Birthday Celebration; served on faculty at Santa Monica College, and with Harmony Project & Los Angeles Master Chorale’s Chamber Ensemble in their school outreach program, Voices Within.
Miss Bourque’s students have performed at the Hollywood Bowl, Walt Disney Concert Hall, on the television program, the Hour of Power, in independent film and documentary projects.
Bringing high quality musical learning experiences and performances in voice, piano, to students of all ages, and receiving congressional, state, county and city recognition as Small Business of the Year, Skylight Academy of Music continues to serve the world through online lessons in piano and voice, online courses and through social media.
Skylight & Miss Bourque works within the teaching community as a Member of National Association Teachers of Singing- Los Angeles Chapter, (NATS-LA), serving on the Board as well as providing online lesson with nonprofit organizations such as the Asociación Cultural Los Angeles; which won best performance in the National Chamber of Commerce’s Mariachi Festival. Skylight Academy and it’s director is a member of the Carson Chamber, was a member and Ambassador with the Torrance Area Chamber of Commerce, Musically directed musicals in collaboration with RUHS Theater dept, where she was nominated as Music Director of the year for The Drowsy Chaperone.
